The Academic Society
In July 2012, The Academic Society (TAS) was created, an academic initiative aimed at promoting and disseminating scientific and scholarly productions throughout the world. A free, non-profit society that has a publishing initiative, The Academic Society Journal (TASJ), a publication that is free for authors and freely accessible to society. The English language, chosen as the official language, was a strategic decision to reach the largest number of TAS member countries. Its structure has a general secretary and a secretary for each member country. Initially there were two countries: Brazil and Chile. The symbol of TAS, closely linked to the city of São Paulo and to Brazil, represents the Ipiranga creek, a sign of the society's independence in disseminating academic research and congressing researchers. In the first meeting of the society, held in São Paulo, the secretaries defined the society's guidelines, as well as, the prizes that would be awarded that year, seven in total. "The present act solemnly announces and establishes the foundation of "The Academic Society" for the promotion of Science as an independent policy research entity that conducts multidisciplinary studies of complex and emerging problems," were the words of the founding text.
In 2013, the Secretary-Chile, Pedro Ivo Teixeira de Carvalho Antunes, a great friend, passed away. Besides the great personal loss, there was an international disarticulation, one of the bases of TAS. After 4 years of inactivity, but with a latent desire to give shape to TAS' objectives, TASJ's number 1 inaugurates a new phase of the society. Maintaining the spirit of internationalization, but adapting to the new phase, it opts to make the official language more flexible by making Portuguese an option for publications. Keeping the tradition started in 2012, it creates the "Pedro Ivo Teixeira de Carvalho Antunes" Award for the most relevant contribution to the development of research. The award was presented during the 5th Artificial Heart Symposium, held in March 2017, at the Federal Institute of São Paulo, to Prof. Dr. Evandro Drigo da Silva for his valuable contribution in the development of several projects in the area of circulatory assistance.

Em julho de 2012, foi criada a The Academic Society (TAS), uma iniciativa acadêmica que visa a promoção e divulgação de produções científicas e acadêmicas pelo mundo. Uma sociedade livre e sem fins lucrativos, que conta com uma iniciativa editorial, o The Academic Society Journal (TASJ), uma publicação gratuita para autores e de livre acesso para a sociedade. O idioma inglês, escolhido como o oficial, foi uma decisão estratégica para alcançar o maior número de países membro da TAS. Sua estrutura possui um secretário geral e um secretário para cada país membro. Inicialmente foram dois países: Brasil e Chile. O símbolo da TAS, muito ligado à cidade de São Paulo e ao Brasil, representa o riacho do Ipiranga, um sinal de independência da sociedade na divulgação das pesquisas acadêmicas e no congressamento dos pesquisadores. Em 2013, falece o secretário-Chile, Pedro Ivo Teixeira de Carvalho Antunes, um grande amigo. Além da grande perda pessoal, houve uma desarticulação internacional, uma das bases da TAS. Após 4 anos de inatividade, mas com um desejo latente de dar forma aos objetivos da TAS, o número 1 do TASJ inaugura uma nova fase da sociedade. Mantendo o espírito de internacionalização, mas adequando à nova fase, opta por flexibilizar o idioma oficial tornando o português uma opção para as publicações. Mantendo a tradição iniciada em 2012, cria o Prêmio “Pedro Ivo Teixeira de Carvalho Antunes” para a mais relevante contribuição ao desenvolvimento das pesquisas. O prêmio foi entregue durante o 5° Simpósio de Coração Artificial, realizado em março de 2017, no Instituto Federal de São Paulo, ao Prof. Dr. Evandro Drigo da Silva por sua valorosa contribuição no desenvolvimento de vários projetos na área de assistência circulatória.
O ousado objetivo da fundação da TAS é nossa motivação, que nos une, em esforço contínuo para a divulgação científica e acadêmica.
